BKKS recognizes that the protection of the health and safety of its employees and others involved in, or affected by its operations, and the protection of the environment, is an integral part of the Company’s business performance, and a prime responsibility of management at every level. Wherever the Company operates, it is committed to achieving the highest level of HSE performance.
BKKS received from KPO, a HSE Excellence Performance Award certificate during the construction of KPC power plant 2000-2002.
BKKS received the annual KPO HSE Award 2012 for the best contractor HSE performance of the year
In March 2017 BKKS achieved in excess of 7,000,000 man-hours worked without an LTI.
To achieve and maintain high levels of HSE performance, BKKS has a HSE system in place to carry out high work performance standards on a daily basis.
BKKS Safety procedures and safety programs, which are based on International models, such as the British “BS” and American Safety Standard “OSHA” comply with the local RoK HSE requirements.
Since 2005, BKKS has implemented an Interface Document Procedure, which includes a HSE improvement plan and a HSE training programs with schedules. This procedure is based on British Standards and complies with KPO requirements. Further, this procedure is reviewed and updated every year to align with the actual KPO/BKKS scope of work
BKKS has implemented and maintained scaffolding systems as per British Safety Standard, since starting to work in the Karachaganak field in 2000.
BKKS has in place, a Scope of Work specific, Health, Safety and Environment Plan and related Safety work procedures with an internal project related HSE Calendar program, split for each 6 months period of the calendar year. The BKKS HSE Calendar contains the following individual elements of HSE programs based on a one month time schedule:
- HSE orientation and training program and schedule aligned with the actual scope of work.
- Daily HSE Monitoring and Inspections
- Weekly Management and HSE Safety Inspections
- BBS monitoring and reporting system
- Daily, Weekly and Monthly meetings
- Emergency Response and Evacuation training with scheduled drills.
- Monthly transport and vehicle inspection schedule.

The BKKS HSSE Plan and related safety procedures reviewed quarterly and undertake continuous performance measurement with updating records and future plans.
Monthly Integrated Management System control (ongoing process)
The HSE Calendar program, individual events and safety tasks will be specified for Operation and Maintenance purposes as per the requirements of the contract.
BKKS has a specific Sub-Contractor quality assessment procedure in place. BKKS requires that all its subcontractors achieve and maintain the same high HSE standard and requirements as those of BKKS.
BKKS, prior to starting individual projects, especially in live and operating plants, ensure all tasks and working processes have been job specifically risk assessed (RAMS) and job safety analyzed to follow the actual scope of work step by step before commencement. For work at Karachaganak, BKKS adopt the KPO HSE procedure KPO-HSE-PR-017-Activity Risk Assessment.
These Method Statements and Risk Assessment Procedure are always job specific and analyze (job safety analysis) the actual scope.
This Risk Assessment Procedure along with the KPO Permit to Work (PTW) requirements are undertaken on a daily basis on all individual job sites and scope of works.
BKKS has complied with the RAMS and PTW Procedures and safe work systems from the commencement of work, within the Karachaganak Field.
BKKS implement an Integrated Management system to ISO 14001 which includes working to IOSH 18001 Environmental management. All appropriate documentation, for reducing our environmental impact during the execution of services within this specified scope will be implemented with particular reference to the Power Plant and Steam Plant. All applicable waste passports and waste disposal licenses and sub-contract agreements will be put in place.
A constant review of Maintenance and Operations activities to establish where BKKS can reduce, limit or eliminate waste will be undertaken. Where an environmentally friendly alternative is available, it will be used.
Maintenance and operations will ensure that, through effective maintenance and adept operation of the plant, the turbines remain as efficient as possible to reduce emissions to the environment.
All chemicals will be covered by our company COSHH procedures. Storage, handling and disposal will be dealt with in the appropriate manner to reduce the environmental impact to as low as reasonably practicable.
